Throughout we assume that \(X\) is an infinite base set with cardinal \(p\) greater than or equal to \(q\), which is itself infinite. The authors identify maximal subsemigroups of the partial Baer-Levi semigroup \(PS(q)\) of all injective partial mappings, the complement of whose range have cardinal \(q\). When \(p\) exceeds \(q\), the maximal subsemigroups are identified as belonging to two distinct types, the first of which is all members of \(PS(q)\) the complement of the domain of which have cardinal (the gap) less than \(p\), while the second is a certain disjoint union of an ideal and a subsemigroup defined in terms of gaps and successor cardinals of gaps of mappings. (This reduces the question to finding maximal subsemigroups of another particular type of subsemigroup.) For the \(p=q\) case, the maximal subsemigroup of the full Baer-Levi semigroup identified by Levi and Wood is extended to find three types of maximal subsemigroups for \(PS(q)\).
