The paper under review deals with the two-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii model for a rotating Bose gas in a disc-shaped trap with Dirichlet boundary condition. The main results of the present paper can be summarized as follows: (i) there are distinguished the cases where the condensate is disc-shaped, respectively the matter density is confined in an annulus along the boundary; (ii) several results are given for the third critical speed. In particular, it is established a case in which there are no vortices in the bulk of the condensate. This provides an upper bound on the third critical speed. The proofs combine techniques in asymptotic analysis with variational methods and a priori estimates.
