The authors study the two-weighted problem for the maximal operator in the setting of variable exponent Lebesgue spaces: \[ \left\|v^\frac{1}{p(\cdot)}Mf\right\|_{L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)}\leq C \left\|w^\frac{1}{p(\cdot)}f\right\|_{L^{p(\cdot)}(\mathbb R^n)}. \] This problem was solved by \textit{V. Kokilashvili} and \textit{A. Meskhi} (see [Proc. A. Razmadze Math. Inst. 146, 120--123 (2008; Zbl 1149.42308), J. Math. Sci., New York 173, No.~6, 656-673 (2011); translation from Probl. Mat. Anal. 55, 13--28 (2011; Zbl 1226.47029)]) in the form of the Sawyer type criterion, in the one-dimensional case and under the assumption that \(p(x)\) is constant beyond some big interval. The authors consider the multidimensional case and replace the constancy of \(p(x)\) at infinity by a decay type condition, but give a number of conditions which are only sufficient for the above two-weighted estimate.
