The authors study the Cauchy problem for hyperbolic systems \[ D_tU= A(t,D)U,\quad U(0,\cdot)= U_0 \] with time-dependent coefficients. Their main goal is to prove energy (\(L^2\)-\(L^2\)) estimates and even \(L^p\)-\(L^q\) estimates along the conjugate line. To reach this goal the authors have to pose conditions on \(A(t,\chi)\). They choose uniform boundedness on the time interval \([0,\infty)\), some control of oscillations of the entries, some control of the interaction of characteristic roots of the principal symbol. The proof is divided into the following main steps: {\parindent=6,5mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] By application of hyperbolic WKB analysis the authors derive a representation of the fundamental matrix \(E(t,s,\xi)\) satisfying \[ D_tE= A(t,\xi)E,\quad E(s,s,\xi)=I \] in the extended phase space. In this way a representation of the solution \(U(t,x)= F^{-1}(E(t,0,\xi) F(U_0))\) is obtained. \item[(2)] \(L^p\)-\(L^q\) estimates for oscillatory integrals with non-standard (even complex) phase functions are proved. \item[(3)] The obtained dispersive estimates are wave-like under some convexity condition with a possible loss of decay. Applications to homogeneous hyperbolic equations of higher-order with time-dependent coefficients are given. \end{itemize}} For the first step the authors need the following tools: 1. zones, symbols, diagonalization procedure, 2. construction of fundamental matrix, Peano-Baker series. For the second step the authors need the following tools: 1. Fresnel surfaces, contact orders, stationary points, 2. partial integration, stationary phase, van der Corput-type lemma in higher dimensions.
