A space \(X\) is said to be selectively separable if for each sequence \(\{D_n:n\in\omega\}\) of dense subsets of \(X\), there are finite sets \(F_n\subset D_n\) \((n\in\omega)\) such that \(\bigcup\{F_n:n\in\omega\}\) is dense in \(X\). This notion was first introduced by \textit{M. Scheepers} [Quaest. Math. 22, 109--130 (1999; Zbl 0972.91026)], and was studied systematically by \textit{A. Bella, M. Bonanzinga, M. V. Matveev} and \textit{V. V. Tkachuk} [Topology Proc. 32, 15--30 (2008; Zbl 1165.54008)]. In the latter, the authors asked the following questions: {\parindent6.5mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] Is selective separability preserved under finite unions? \item[(2)] Is selective separability preserved under finite products? \item[(3)] Is the group generated by a countable, selectively separable, dense subset of \(\{0,1\}^\kappa\), where \(\kappa\) is an uncountable cardinal, selectively separable? \end{itemize}} In the present paper, the authors prove that the answer to (1) is positive, the answer to (2) is negative under the assumption of the continuum hypothesis, and the answer to (3) is negative. Some natural variations of selective separability are also studied.
