The authors use categorical terminology to obtain a generalization of some properties of \({\mathcal P}(\omega)/\text{fin}\). They use a notion of posex, defined by a certain pushout diagram, to define a notion equivalent to begin having an additive \(\sigma\)-skeleton. Then the main theorem says that under the assumption that \({\mathfrak c}\) is regular there is a unique Boolean algebra of size \({\mathfrak c}\) with an additive \(\sigma\)-skeleton which embeds a posex in a certain sense. An analogous result is obtained for Banach spaces.
