Let \(R\) be a commutative noetherian ring with identity. Let \(\mathfrak{a}\) be an ideal of \(R\), \(M\) a finitely generated \(R\)-module and \(t,n_0\) two positive integers. The main result of the paper under review, asserts that if \(\mathfrak{a}^{n_0}H_{\mathfrak{a}}^i(M)=0\) for all \(i<t\), then for any \(\mathfrak{a}\)-filter regular element \(x\in \mathfrak{a}^{2n_0}\) on \(M\), it holds \[ H_{\mathfrak{a}}^i(M/xM)\cong H_{\mathfrak{a}}^i(M)\bigoplus H_{\mathfrak{a}}^{i+1}(M) \] for all \(i<t-1\). As an application, the authors prove that if \(H_{\mathfrak{a}}^i(M)\) is finitely generated for all \(i<t\), then for any \(\mathfrak{a}\)-filter regular sequence \(x_1,\ldots ,x_t\) on \(M\) contained in a enough large power of \(\mathfrak{a}\), one has \[ \bigcup_{i=0}^j\mathrm{Ass}_R(H_{\mathfrak{a}}^i(M))=\mathrm{Ass}_R(M/(x_1,\ldots ,x_j)M)\bigcap V(\mathfrak{a}) \] for all \(1\leq j\leq t\). In particular, \(\mathrm{Ass}_R(H_{\mathfrak{a}}^t(M))\) is finite. This extends the main result of [\textit{M. Brodmann} and \textit{A. L. Faghani}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 128, No.~10, 2851--2853 (2000; Zbl 0955.13007)].
