From the introduction: ``Denote by \(V_n^2\) the space of polynomial binary forms of degree \(n\) over the field \(\mathbb C\) and consider the following action of the group \(GL_2(\mathbb C)\) on this space: the subgroup \(SL_2(\mathbb C)\subset GL_2(\mathbb C)\) acts by linear transformations in the standard way, and the center \(\mathbb C^*\subset GL_2(\mathbb C)\) acts by homotheties \(f\mapsto \lambda f\), where \(f\in V_n^2\) and \(\lambda\in \mathbb C^*\).'' ``In this paper we suggest a method which classifies the \(GL_2(\mathbb C)\)-orbits of polynomials as well as rational binary forms of any degree. This method is based on the interpretation of the space \(V_n^2\) as the space of smooth solutions of the differential equation \(xf_x+yf_y=nf\) (the so-called \textit{Euler equation}) and on the consideration of the \(GL_2(\mathbb C)\)-action on the solution space of this equation.''
