The paper deals with the periodic problem \[ u''(t)+f(u(t))u'(t)+g(u(t))=h(t,u(t)), \tag{1} \] \[ u(0)=u(\omega),\quad u'(0)=u'(\omega), \tag{2} \] where \(f, g\in C(\mathbb R_+;\mathbb R)\) may have singularities at zero, and \(h\in Car([0,\omega]\times \mathbb R^0_+;\mathbb R)\). Both attractive and repulsive singularities are considered. The authors develop a novel method of construction of upper and lower functions. Using this, they present new sufficient conditions for the existence of a positive solution of problem (1), (2) with a special attention to the model equation \[ u''(t)+f(u(t))u'(t)+\frac{g_1}{u^\nu(t)}-\frac{g_2}{u^\gamma(t)}=h_0(t)u^\delta(t), \] where \(g_1,g_2,\delta\in \mathbb R^0_+\), \(\nu\in \mathbb R_+\), \(\gamma\in \mathbb R\), \(h_0\in L([0,\omega];\mathbb R)\) and \(f\in C(\mathbb R_+;\mathbb R)\). These results are applied to the Rayleigh-Plesset equation. The paper can be considered as the second part of the previous work of the authors ``Periodic solutions of singular second order differential equations: the repulsive cases'', \url{http://www.ugr.es/~ecuadif/fuentenueva.htm}.
