Consider the planar polynomial system \[ \begin{aligned} {dx\over dt} &= -y(1+ x^4)+\varepsilon P_n(x,y),\\ {dy\over dt} &= x(1+ x^4)+\varepsilon Q_n(x,y),\end{aligned}\tag{\(*\)} \] where \[ P_n(x,y)= \sum_{1\leq i+j\leq n} p_{ij} x^i y^j,\quad Q_n(x,y)= \sum_{1\leq i+ j\leq n} q_{ij} x^i y^j. \] The authors prove the following results. (i) The cyclicity of the equilibrium \(x= y=0\) is at least \(3[{n+1\over 2}]-2\) for \(n\geq 1\). (ii) For \(n\geq 5\) and \(\varepsilon\) sufficiently small, system \((*)\) has not more than \(5[{n+1\over 4}]+ [{n+1\over 2}]\) limit cycles.
