    A contraction \(T\) on a 2-metric space \((X, d)\) was considered by \textit{K. Iseki, P. L. Sharma} and \textit{B. K. Sharma} [Tamkang J. Math. 7, 219--222 (1976; Zbl 0366.54024)] in the following way: \(d(Tx, Ty, a) \leq kd(x, y, a)\) for all points \(x, y, a\) of the space \(X\), where \(0 <k<1\). Subsequently, fixed point theorems for more general maps were developed among others by \textit{B. E. Rhoades} [Math. Nachr. 91, 151--155 (1979; Zbl 0424.54038 )] and \textit{S. L. Singh, B. M. L. Tiwari} and \textit{V. K. Gupta} [Math. Nachr. 95, 293--297 (1980; Zbl 0465.54037)]. In the present paper, the authors define a contraction \(F\) on \(X\) as \(d(Fx, Fy, Fz) \leq kd(x, y, z)\) for all points \(x, y, z\) of the space \(X\), where \(0 <k<1\). With some additional hypotheses, they show that the map \(F\) on a bounded 2-metric space has either a fixed point or a fixed line.
