The concept of linkage of modules is a generalization of the usual linkage of ideals, but has not been extensively studied. In addition to the papers of \textit{A. Martinkovsky} and \textit{J. R. Strooker} [J. Algebra 271, No. 2, 587--626 (2004; Zbl 1099.13026)] and \textit{K. Nishida} [Math. J. Okayama Univ. 51, 71--81 (2009; Zbl 1168.13008)] quoted in the paper under review, different approaches were introduced and considered by \textit{H. Martin} [Commun. Algebra 28, 199--213 (2000)], \textit{U. Nagel} [J. Algebra 284, No. 1, 236-272 (2005; Zbl 1095.13011)] and \textit{Y. Yoshino} and \textit{S. Isogawa} [ J. Pure Appl. Algebra 149, No. 3, 305--318 (2000; Zbl 0955.13004)]. In the current paper, for the first time the authors work over a Cohen-Macaulay ring rather than the more restrictive Gorenstein ring. There is no hope for a broad theory with only this assumption, so the authors introduce the strongly Cohen-Macaulay and sliding depth condition for modules. As a result, they prove the invariance of the Cohen-Macaulay condition for linked modules. They also obtain results concerning sequentially Cohen-Macaulay modules, and they obtain a duality between local cohomology modules under certain assumptions.
