A quantum Navier-Stokes equation is formally derived from the Wigner-Fokker-Planck equation using a moment method. The main idea of this alternative derivation is to invoke the so-called osmotic momentum operator. This allows to avoid a direct reference to the Chapman-Enskog expansion of the Wigner function, typically leading to viscous approximations. The results hold true up to terms of order \(O(\hbar^4)\).
