The author develops a new method for examining a trigonometric series with spectra of various types. He obtains a most general form of multiplicative inequalities involving a lower bound for the integral norm of de la Vallée-Poussin means of Fourier series of functions of Hardy and Lebesgue spaces. Finally, necessary conditions on the coefficients of a trigonometric series are established for the series to be a Fourier series.
