Growth of the Weil-Petersson diameter of moduli space (Q662421): Difference between revisions

The authors study properties of the Weil-Petersson diameter \(\text{diam}(\mathcal M_{g,n})\) of the Riemann moduli space \(\mathcal M_{g,n}\) as the genus \(g\) and the number of punctures \(n\) grows. In particular, they show that for any fixed genus \(g\), this diameter grows like the square root of the number of punctures \(n\). That is, there is a constant \(D\) (independent of \(g\)) satisfying \[ \lim_{n \rightarrow\infty} \frac{\text{diam}(\mathcal M_{g,n})}{\sqrt{n}} = D. \] As \(g\) grows, for fixed \(n\), they show that the growth is at least like \(\sqrt{g}\) and bounded above by \(\sqrt{g} \log g\).
