If \(G\) is a simple group over \(\mathbb R\), then a subgroup with abelian unipotent radical is called ``Bessel type'' if the unipotent radical admits a unitary character with compact stabilizer in a Levi factor of the parabolic subgroup. In this paper, the authors consider spaces of functionals, \(W\), on admissible irreducible representations that admit covariants by unitary characters with compact stabilizer (the Bessel functionals). These are the Bessel models in the title. A holomorphic continuation of Jacquet type integrals for parabolic subgroups with abelian nil-radical is studied. Complete results are given for generic characters with compact stabilizer and arbitrary representations induced from admissible representations. A description of all pertinent examples is given. The main result yields a complete determination of Bessel models for admissible representations induced from Bessel parabolic subgroups. Using this theorem, the authors deduce upper bounds on the dimensions of the spaces of Bessel functionals on irreducible smooth Fréchet representations of moderate growth. This result is an inequality relating Bessel models to the space of conical vectors.
