The paper concerns the following problem: For each left invariant Riemannian metric on a simply connected 3-dimensional unimodular Lie group, determine the full group of isometries. There are exactly six simply connected 3-dimensional unimodular Lie groups. The investigations described in the paper were motivated by the paper of \textit{K. Y. Ha} and \textit{J. B. Lee} [Math. Nachr. 282, No. 6, 868--898 (2009; Zbl 1172.22006)] in which all left invariant Riemannian metrics on each of the simply connected 3-dimensional Lie groups are classified up to automorphisms. Using this classification, the authors determine on each such Lie group the full group of isometries which depends on left invariant Riemannian metrics.
