In this paper, the relations between ordinary connections on principal fiber bundles and two different generalizations of this notion are studied. These generalizations are the following: on the one hand, connections in the framework of the derivation-based noncommutative geometry (see [\textit{A. Connes}, Noncommutative geometry. Transl. from the French by Sterling Berberian. San Diego, CA: Academic Press (1994; Zbl 0818.46076)]), where the commutative algebra is considered as a substitute for a principal fiber bundle together with its gauge group. On the other hand, the connection on Lie algebroids (see [\textit{K.C.H. Mackenzie}, The general theory of Lie groupoids and Lie algebroids. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press (2005; Zbl 1078.58011)]) given by a natural notion of covariant derivatives can be defined, where elements of a Lie algebroid are mapped into first order differential operators on a vector bundle. In order to compare these two constructions, the authors emphasize an algebraic approach of connections on Atiyah Lie algebroids: the space of basic forms in a larger differential calculus which involves the space of de Rham forms on the underlying principal fiber bundle. The authors consider the derivation-based noncommutative geometry of the algebra of endomorphisms of an \(\text{SL}(n,\mathbb{C})\)-vector bundle for which the space of derivations of this algebra is a transitive Lie algebroid and they prove that it is isomorphic to the Atiyah-Lie algebroid associated to the the underlying \(\text{SL}(n,\mathbb{C})\)-principal fibre bundle. Moreover, Theorems 4.10 and 4.11 show that the two notions of generalized connections in this context are the same. Gauge transformations are also considered in this comparison.
