Right-veering diffeomorphisms keeping track of overtwistedness of contact structures under some monodromy changes, are studied in the case of contact structures supported by planar open book decompositions. As an application, the authors give infinitely many examples of overtwisted contact structures supported by open books whose pages are the four-punctured sphere, and also, they prove that a certain family is Stein fillable using the lantern relation.
