The authors consider a Cauchy problem of the time fractional diffusion equation (TFDE). Such equations arise by replacing the standard time partial derivative in the diffusion equation with a time fractional partial derivative. The direct problems, i.e., initial value value problem and initial boundary value problem for TFDE have benn studied extensively during last few years [\textit{R. Scherer}, the reviewer, \textit{L. Boyadjiev} and \textit{B. Saqabi}, Appl. Numer. Math. 58, No. 8, 1212--1223 (2008; Zbl 1143.65105)]. The Cauchy problem for the TFDE is an inverse problem and is severely ill-posed, i.e. the solution does not depend continuously on the given data and any small perturbation in the given data may cause large change to the solution. The authors consider a new regularization method to construct a stable approximate solution of Cauchy problem. Convergence estimates in the interior and on the boundary of solution domain are obtained. Numerical examples are provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. | |||
