For a Hausdorff topological group \(G\) and a Hausdorff space \(X\), the author studies primitivity in the near-ring \(N_0(G)\) of all zero-preserving continuous selfmaps on \(G\) and in the sandwich near-ring \(N_0(X,G,\theta)\) of all zero-preserving continuous maps \(X\to G\). Here \(\theta\colon G\to X\) is a continuous map (usually with \(\theta^{-1}(\theta(0))=\{0\})\) and the multiplication in \(N_0(X,G,\theta)\) is given by \(ab:=a\circ\theta\circ b\). For example, it is shown that if \(G\) is arcwise connected or \(0\)-dimensional, then \(N_0(G)\) is \(3\)-primitive on \(G\). When \(X\) is \(0\)-dimensional, then \(N_0(X,G,\theta)\) is \(2\)-primitive if and only if the closure of \(\theta(G)\) coincides with \(X\). The radicals of the near-rings under consideration are also described for certain restricted topologies. For example, if \(G\) is a disconnected topological group with open components which are arcwise connected and has more than one element, then \(\mathcal J_3(N_0(G))=\{a\in N_0(G)\mid a(H)=0\) and \(a(G)\subseteq H\}\) where \(H\) is the component of \(G\) that contains \(0\).
