The modulation of a signal that is transmitted in the nerve system takes place in chemical synapses. This article focuses on the phenomena occuring in the presynaptic part of the synapse. A diffusion-reaction type model based on the partial differential equation is proposed. The averaging procedure of the PDE model is performed fully correctly from the formal point of view. The obtained ODE model is then referred to the Aristizabal-Glavinovic model and both models are analyzed in the context of their dynamical aspects -- controllability, observability and stability. The biological implications are also discussed.
