A ring \(R\) (possibly without identity) is called reversible (resp. strongly reversible) if \(ab=0\) implies \(ba=0\) for all \(a,b\in R\) (resp. \(R[x]\) is reversible). \(R\) is called IFP (resp. strongly IFP) if \(ab=0\) implies that \(aRb=(0)\) (resp. \(R[x]\) is IFP). Recently, Armendariz rings (note, \(R\) is called Armendariz if whenever \(f(x),g(x)\in R[x]\) satisfy \(f(x)g(x)=0\), we have \(ab=0\), where \(a,b\) are arbitrary coefficients of \(f(x),g(x)\), respectively) have received considerable attention in the literature, see for example \textit{D. D. Anderson, V. Camillo} [Commun. Algebra 26, No. 7, 2265-2272 (1998; Zbl 0915.13001)], \textit{C. Huh, Y. Lee, A. Smoktunowicz} [Commun. Algebra 30, No. 2, 751-761 (2002; Zbl 1023.16005)], \textit{Y. C. Jeon, H. K. Kim, Y. Lee, J. S. Yoon} [Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 46, No. 1, 135-146 (2009; Zbl 1180.16018)], \textit{T.-K. Lee, T.-L. Wong} [Houston J. Math. 29, No. 3, 583-593 (2003; Zbl 1071.16015)], \textit{T.-K. Lee, Y.-Q. Zhou} [Commun. Algebra 32, No. 6, 2287-2299 (2004; Zbl 1068.16037)], and \textit{M. B. Rege, S. Chhawchharia} [Proc. Japan Acad., Ser. A 73, No. 1, 14-17 (1997; Zbl 0960.16038)]. In the article under review, the authors call a ring \(R\) an ideal-Armendariz ring if it is both Armendariz and IFP. Before giving the main result, they observe several straightforward facts, with elementary proofs, related to the latter rings. The following is the main result of this article. Theorem. Let \(R\) have a unique maximal right ideal consisting of only 4 elements, then \(R\) is Armendariz, symmetric (i.e., \(rst=0\) implies \(rts=0\) for all \(r,s,t\in R\)), and strongly reversible. Moreover, if \(|R|=8\), then \(R\) is commutative. The authors also present several useful and appropriate examples related to the aforementioned properties of rings which makes the article interesting to read. | |||
