The authors study the class of subdivision schemes associated with nonnegative finite masks which possess the important property of convergence not relying on the actual values of the masks but rather on the support of masks. Computable simple sufficient conditions concerning the convergence of such multivariate subdivision schemes are given. In a particular case, the authors' theorem is related to some earlier results; see ([\textit{A. A. Melkman}, Ann. Numer. Math. 4, No. 1--4, 451--460 (1997; Zbl 0885.65014)] and [\textit{D. E. Gonsor}, Adv. Comput. Math. 1, No. 2, 215--221 (1993; Zbl 0824.65006)]).
