    Let \((X,d,L,R)\) be a fuzzy metric space (FMS). Suppose that for each \(t\in (0,1]\) there exists \(s\) in \((0,t]\) such that \(R(s,r)< t\) for all \(r\in (0,t)\). Theorem 1. Let \(\varphi= \mathbb{R}^+\to\mathbb{R}^+\) be a function with \(\varphi^{-1}\{0\}= \{0\}\) satisfying one of the following conditions: (a) \(\varphi (r)< r\) and \(\sup_{q\to r}\varphi(q)< r\) \(\forall r> 0\); (b) \(\varphi\) is nondecreasing and \(\sum^\infty_{n=1} \varphi^n(r)<\infty\) \(\forall r> 0\). Let \(T: X\to X\) be a mapping such that \(\rho_t(Tx,Ty)\leq \varphi(\rho_t(x,y))\) \(\forall t\in (0,1]\) and \(x,y\in X\). Then there exists a unique \(u\in X\) such that \(Tu= u\). This is a contraction of the Boyd-Wong type in a FMS. Similarly, this paper contains contractions of the Alber-Guerre Delabriere type in a FMS, and of the Kannan-Reich type in a FMS.
