This paper is a nice synthesis of various earlier works on the boundedness of singular integrals in abstract settings: it is simultaneously general with respect to the domain (a metric space) and the range (a UMD Banach space) of the functions, as well as the underlying (upper doubling) measure. The main result is a global \(Tb\) theorem in this set-up. Some auxiliary tools of independent interest are a John--Nirenberg-type inequality for the condition \(Tb\in\text{BMO}\), and a trick to force an equal probability for ``good dyadic cubes'' in a metric space version of the randomized martingale difference decomposition à la Nazarov--Treil--Volberg.
