Let \(G\) be a real linear reductive group, and let \(V\) be an \(\mathbb{R} \)-vector space such that \(G\) acts on \(V\) linearly and rationally. Then \(G\) can be viewed as the real points a complex linear reductive group \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\) and \(G\) has finite index in \(G^{\mathbb{C}}.\) Furthermore, this group \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\) acts on \(V^{\mathbb{C}}:=V\otimes_{\mathbb{R}}\mathbb{C}.\) These real and complex group actions extend to actions on the real and complex projective spaces \(\mathbb{P}V\) and \(\mathbb{CP}\left( V^{\mathbb{C}}\right) \) respectively. For \(v\in V\) (resp. \(\left[ v\right] \in\mathbb{P}V)\) we call the orbit \(G\cdot v\) (resp \(G\cdot\left[ v\right] )\) distinguished if \(G\cdot\left[ v\right] \) contains a critical point of the norm square of the real moment map. Letting \(\pi:\mathbb{RP}V^{\mathbb{C}}\rightarrow \mathbb{CP}\left( V^{\mathbb{C}}\right) \) be the natural projection, for \(v\in V^{\mathbb{C}}\) we say \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\cdot v\) or \(G^{\mathbb{C}} \cdot\pi\left[ v\right] \) distinguished if \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\cdot\pi\left[ v\right] \) contains a critical point of the norm square of the complex moment map. In the work under review, the author obtains results concerning distinguished orbits. The first main result establishes that, for \(\left[ v\right] \in\mathbb{P}V\) we have \(G\cdot\left[ v\right] \) distinguished in \(\mathbb{P}V\) if and only if \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\cdot\pi\left[ v\right] \) is distinguished in \(\mathbb{CP}\left( V^{\mathbb{C}}\right) .\) Let \(\mathfrak{C}\) (resp \(\mathfrak{C}_{\mathbb{R}}\)) be the set of critical points of the norm square of the complex (resp. real) moment map . Let \(x\in\mathbb{CP}\left( V^{\mathbb{C}}\right) .\) If \(G\cdot\left[ x\right] \) is a distinguished orbit, there exists \(z\in G^{\mathbb{C}}\cdot x\cap\mathfrak{C}\), then \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\cdot x\cap\mathfrak{C}=U\cdot z,\) where \(U\) is a specific maximal compact subgroup of \(G^{\mathbb{C}};.\) furthermore the orbit \(U\cdot z\) can be expressed as a union of \(\omega\)-limit sets. Similarly, for \(x\in\mathbb{P}V,\) if \(G\cdot\left[ x\right] \) is a distinguished orbit, there exists \(z\in G\cdot x\cap\mathfrak{C}_{R}\), then \(G^{\mathbb{C}}\cdot x\cap\mathfrak{C}_{\mathbb{R}}=K\cdot z,\) where \(K\) is a specific maximal compact subgroup of \(G;\) this orbit can also be described using \(\omega\)-limit sets.
