Let \(G\) be a finite group. A subgroup \(S\) of \(G\) is said to be a `semi CAP*-subgroup' of \(G\) if there is a chief series of \(G\) where each non-Frattini chief factor is either covered or avoided by \(S\). The present paper provides some sufficient conditions for a normal subgroup of \(G\) to be soluble given that certain maximal subgroups of \(G\) are semi CAP*. A typical result is as follows. If \(H\) is a normal subgroup of \(G\) such that every maximal subgroup of \(G\) containing the normaliser of some Sylow 2-subgroup of \(G\) while not containing \(H\) is a semi CAP*-subgroup of \(G\), then \(H\) is soluble (Theorem 3.9).
