In [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 314, No. 2, 619--638 (1989; Zbl 0679.52007)], \textit{B. Fuglede} proved a relation between the isoperimetric deficit \[ \delta(\Omega)=\frac{P(\Omega)}{n|B^n|^{1/n}|\Omega|^{(n-1)/n}}-1 \] of a bounded convex domain \(\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^n\) and a certain value relating its circumradius \(R\) and its inradius \(s\). Here \(|\cdot|\) denotes the \(n\)-dimensional volume, \(P(\cdot)\) is the (\(n-1\))-dimensional measure of the boundary and \(B^n\) represents the Euclidean unit ball of \(\mathbb{R}^n\). The main aim of the paper under review is to show another Bonnesen type inequality when \(\Omega\) is a John domain. More precisely, the authors establish an inequality relating \(\delta(\Omega)\) and the so-called outer metric distortion \(\alpha(\Omega)=(R-r)/r\), where \(r=\bigl(|\Omega|/|B^n|\bigr)^{1/n}\) is the volume radius of \(\Omega\).
