Consider the following initial value problem \[ {{dx}\over{dt}}=i\rho R(t)y,\;{{dy}\over{dt}}=i\rho{{1}\over{R(t)}}x,\quad t\in[0,T], \] \[ x(0,\rho)=r_1,\;y(0,\rho)={{r_2}\over{\rho}}, \] where \(T=\int_0^1\phi(\varsigma)\,d\varsigma\) for \(\phi(\varsigma)=(\varsigma-\varsigma_1)^{2l}\), \(\varsigma\in[0,1]\), with \(\varsigma_1\in(0,1)\) and \(l=2k\), \(k\in N\), \(r_1=\varsigma_1^l\), \(r_2=il\varsigma_1^{l+1}\), \(\rho=\sigma+i\tau\) is the spectral parameter, and \(R(t)=|t-t_1|^{p-1}R_0(t)\) for any real numbers \(p\) and \(t_1=\int_0^{\varsigma_1}\phi(\varsigma)\,d\varsigma\) and a positive function \(R_0(t)\in W_2^1[0,T]\). By a suitable replacement this problem is transformed to the following singular initial value problem \[ -u''+q(t)u=\lambda u,\quad t\in[0,T],\tag{1} \] \[ u(0,\rho)=r_1,\;u'(0,\rho)=ir_2\tag{2} \] of Sturm-Liouville type, where \(\lambda=\rho^2\) and \(q(t)=\Bigl({{R'(t)}\over{2R(t)}}\Bigr)^2-\Bigl({{R'(t)}\over{2R(t)}}\Bigr)'\). Next, using the infinite product representation of solutions to (1), (2) and the sequence of positive eigenvalues of the boundary value problem for (1) under the boundary conditions \[ u(0,\lambda)=r_1,\;u'(0,\lambda)=ir_2,\;u(t,\lambda)=0,\;0<t\leq T,\tag{3} \] the authors introduce a set of second-order differential equations which they call dual equations to (1). Finally, the uniqueness of the solution for the dual equation of the inverse spectral problem of Sturm-Liouville equation is investigated.
