\textit{P. Terwilliger} [Linear Algebra Appl. 330, No. 1--3, 149--203 (2001; Zbl 0980.05054)] first defined a Leonard pair on a vector space of finite dimension. In this paper, the results by \textit{A. A. Pascasio} [Discrete Math. 308, No. 14, 3090--3096 (2008; Zbl 1171.05054)] are extended to a linear algebraic level and a new characterization of Leonard pairs is obtained.
