In the paper under review, the authors study universal central extensions of direct limit of perfect Lie superalgebras. They prove that in the category of perfect Lie superalgebras, the functor \(\mathfrak{uce},\) which corresponds to each perfect Lie superalgebra, its universal central extension, commutes with the functor \(\underrightarrow{lim}\) (direct limit). The authors use their result to describe the universal central extensions of some infinite rank perfect Lie superalgebras. As a by-product, they obtain the universal central extension of some root graded Lie algebras. More precisely, if \(\mathfrak{L}\) is a centerless Lie algebra which is graded by an infinite reduced irreducible locally finite root system \(R\), they regard \(R\) as a direct union of irreducible reduced finite subsystems \(R_i\)'s of the same type as \(R,\) where \(i\) runs through an infinite index set \(I,\) and regard \(\mathfrak{L}\) as a direct union of Lie algebras \(\mathfrak{L}_i\) graded by \(R_i\) (\(i\in I\)). Now if for each \(i,j\in I\) with \(R_i\subset R_j,\) the center of \(\mathfrak{L}_i\) is a subset of the center of \(\mathfrak{L}_j,\) they get \[ \mathfrak{uce}(\mathfrak{L})\simeq\mathfrak{uce}(\underrightarrow{\lim}_{i\in I}\mathfrak{L}_i)\simeq\underrightarrow{\lim}_{i\in I}\mathfrak{uce}(\mathfrak{L}_i). \] This together with the known result on the universal central extensions of Lie algebras graded by finite root systems [\textit{B. Allison} et al., Math. Ann. 316, No. 3, 499--527 (2000; Zbl 0989.17004)] helps the authors to describe the underlying vector space of \(\mathfrak{uce}(\mathfrak{L}).\)
