Summary: We consider a hybrid Dai-Yuan conjugate gradient method [\textit{Y. H. Dai} and \textit{Y. Yuan}, Ann. Oper. Res. 103, 33--47 (2001; Zbl 1007.90065)]. We confirm that its numerical performance can be improved provided that this method uses a practical steplength rule developed by \textit{Y. Dong} [Comput. Math. Appl. 60, No. 3, 563--571 (2010; Zbl 1201.65079)], and the associated convergence is analyzed as well.
