Summary: A periodic discrete time three species competition system is investigated. With the aid of differential equations with piecewise constant arguments, a discrete analogue of continuous nonautonomous three species competition systems is proposed. By using \textit{R.E. Gaines} and \textit{J.L. Mawhin}'s continuation theorem of coincidence degree theory [Coincidence degree, and nonlinear differential equations. Berlin: Springer (1977; Zbl 0339.47031)] sufficient conditions for the existence of positive periodic solutions of the model are obtained.
