    Trigonometric series of the form \[ f(x):= \sum^\infty_{n=1}a_n\cos nx\quad\text{and}\quad g(x):= \sum^\infty_{n=1} a_n\sin nx \] are investigated, where \(\{a_n\}\) is a sequence of real numbers. Let \(\{n_k\}\) be a subsequence of the natural numbers satisfying the Hadamard gap condition with \(n_0:= 0\) and \(n_1:=1\). For \(n_{k-1}+ 1< n< n_k\), set \[ \nu(n):= \min\{2n, n_k-1\}\quad\text{and}\quad \mu(n):=\max\{[n/2], n_{k-1}+ 1\}. \] According to the authors' definition, ``the sequence \(\{a_n\}\) is said to be a piecewise mean value bounded variation sequence, in symbols: \(\{a_n\}\in \text{PMBVS}\), if \(\{a_n\}\) keeps sign for \(n_{k-1}+ 1\leq n\leq n_k\), \(k= 1,2,\dots\), and satisfies one of the following two conditions: For \(n_{k-1}+1< n< n_k\), \(k=1,2,\dots\), we have either \[ \sum^{\nu(n)}_{\ell= n}|\Delta a_\ell|\leq {M\over n} \sum^{\nu(n)}_{\ell=\mu(n)} |a_\ell|\quad\text{or}\quad \sum^n_{\ell= \mu(n)} |\Delta a_\ell|\leq{M\over n} \sum^{\nu(n)}_{\ell= \mu(n)} |a_\ell|, \] where \(M\) is a constant.'' ``All the previously defined quasi-monotone conditions like QMS, RVQMS, RBVS, GBVS, NBVS, MVBVS (see their definitions e.g. in [\textit{S. Zhou, P. Zhou} and \textit{D. S. Yu}, Sci. China, Math. 53, No. 7, 1853--1862 (2010; Zbl 1211.42006)]) are subclasses of the PMBVS defined above.'' ``This paper systematically investigates the applications of PMBVS in pointwise convergence, uniform convergence, \(L^1\)-convergence, and \(L^1\)-integrability of trigonometric series.''
