Let \(B/A\) be a Galois extension of Dedekind rings with Galois group \(G\), i.e., \(G\) is the group of automorphisms of \(B\), \(A=B^G\), and \(B\otimes_AB\) has a normal \(B\)-basis (if \(A,B\) are rings of integers of algebraic number fields \(K\subset L\), then the extension \(B/A\) is Galois if and only if \(L/K\) is Galois with discriminant \(D(L/K)\) equal to \(A\)). It is shown that \(B\) is a free \(A\)-module, except possibly when \(\mathrm{char}(A)\neq2\) and \(G\) is soluble with non-trivial cyclic Sylow \(2\)-groups. In this exceptional case there exists \(H<G\) of index \(2\) such that the Steinitz classes of \(B/A\) and \(B^H/A\) coincide and lie in the kernel of the map \(\mathrm{Cl}(A)\to \mathrm{Cl}(B^H)\) of class-groups. At the end of the paper results of \textit{H. B. Mann} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 9, 167--172 (1958; Zbl 0081.26602)], \textit{A. Fröhlich} [Mathematika, Lond. 7, 15--22 (1960; Zbl 0229.12007)] and \textit{L. N. Childs} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 35, 407-422 (1977; Zbl 0374.13002)] dealing with monogenity and the existence of normal bases in Galois extensions with the cyclic \(2\)-element group are presented.
