Let \(\mathcal{F}_2\) denote the space of all holomorphic foliations of \(\mathbb{CP}^2\) of degree 2. The author investigates such foliations up to the action of \(\mathrm{Aut}(\mathbb{CP}^2)\). The article under review is a continuation of her work presented in [Glasg. Math. J. 53, No. 1, 153--168 (2011; Zbl 1232.37028)], where she characterized unstable and stable foliations in \(\mathcal{F}_2\) with isolated singularity, according to the multiplicity and the Milnor numbers of singular points and the existence of invariant lines. The main result is a construction of a stratification of \(\mathcal{F}_2\) based on the geometric invariant Theory with respect to the action of \(\mathrm{Aut}(\mathbb{CP}^2)\). The strata are characterized according to the existence of invariant lines, degenerate singularities, the first non-zero jet and existence of curves of singularities. Their dimension, closure and, in some cases, automorphism group are computed. Moreover, several consequences of this construction are described. In particular, the author finds the one-parameter subgroup most responsible for the instability of a foliation in the sense of \textit{G. R. Kempf} [Ann. Math. (2) 108, 299--316 (1978; Zbl 0406.14031)]. She shows that the set of unstable foliations in \(\mathcal{F}_2\) has two irreducible components. Also, she gives a new proof of a result of \textit{D. Cerveau} et al. [Bull. Braz. Math. Soc. (N.S.) 41, No. 2, 161--198 (2010; Zbl 1217.37048)]: up to the action of \(\mathrm{Aut}(\mathbb{CP}^2)\) there exist only four holomorphic foliations in \(\mathcal{F}_2\) with a unique singular point. | |||

Math.
