In this sparse note, the authors combine estimates proved in outside works to compute bounds on the rate of convergence of Birkhoff sums \(A_n f(\omega)=\frac{1}{n} \sum_{k=0}^{n-1} f(T^k \omega)\) to a limiting function \(\lim A_n f = f^*\). The rate of convergence is measured both pointwise (the Birkhoff ergodic theorem) and in \(L_2\) (the von Neumann ergodic theorem). The theorems stated are either references to outside works (Theorem 2), unspecified generalizations of outside works (Theorem 1), or assertions without proof or reference (Theorem 3). Several references used as steps along the way only apply to certain systems, and these restrictions are not described (e.g., stating that certain estimates apply to ``some classes of plane semi-dispersing billiards'' without specifying what classes those are). As such, any reader interested in applying the convergence rates derived will likely have to sort through the references on their own to see if they apply. (Typo: the inline equation in Theorem 3 should begin \(\text{p}_n^{2\epsilon}(\chi_E) = \ldots\)) | |||

(Typo: the inline equation in Theorem 3 should begin \(\text{p}_n^{2\epsilon}(\chi_E) = \ldots\))
