The authors consider a general two-phase and two component mathematical model which describes the biofilm growth. This model consists of a Stokes equations for the extracellular polymetric substance (EPS) with bacteria attached to it, a Stokes equations for the solvent in one phase, and another for the solvent in another phase. The interface of the two phases is a free boundary which evolves in time. Then the authors show that a solution of such system uniquely exists, in a small time interval, with a smooth free-boundary.
