    On the basis of a simple result showing that if a diffeomorphism of a compact Riemannian manifold has pointwise expanding and contracting continuous invariant cone families, then the entire family is uniformly hyperbolic, the authors indicate a general mechanism for the given implication. Three related theorems are presented.
