Brown representability is a key tool for investigations of triangulated categories. The main result of the paper shows that the Brown representability is valid for the opposite category of the homotopy category if and only if the initial additive category has a product generator. This result makes the situation for pure semisimple rings \(R\) complete: the homotopy category of complexes of \(R\)-modules and its dual both satisfy the Brown representability theorem, answering a long-standing question.
