    For a meromorphic function \(f\), let \(\rho \left( f\right) \) and \( \rho _{2}\left( f\right) \) denote the order and the hyper-order of \(f\) respectively, and \(\overline{\lambda }\left( f\right) \) the exponent of convergence of the sequence of distinct zeros of \(f\). In this paper, the authors investigate the growth and the zeros of the difference of the first and second derivative of the solutions of the second-order linear differential equation \[ f^{\prime \prime }+A_{0}e^{a_{0}z}f^{\prime }+\left( A_{1}e^{a_{1}z}+A_{2}e^{a_{2}z}\right) f=0 \tag{1} \] and a small function, where \(A_{j}\left( z\right) \) \(\left( \not\equiv 0\right) \) \(\left( j=0,1,2\right) \) are meromorphic functions and \(a_{1}\), \(a_{2}\) are two complex numbers such that \( a_{1}a_{2}\neq 0\) \(a_{1}\neq a_{2}\). The main results of this paper are as follows. {Theorem 1}. Suppose that \(A_{j}\left( z\right) \) \(\left( \not\equiv 0\right) \) \(\left( j=0,1,2\right) \) are meromorphic functions with \(\rho \left( A_{j}\right) <1\) and \(a_{1}\), \(a_{2}\) are two complex numbers such that \(a_{1}a_{2}\neq 0\), \(a_{1}\neq a_{2}\) (suppose that \(\left| a_{1}\right| \leqslant \left| a_{2}\right| \)). Let \(a_{0}\) be a real constant satisfying \(a_{0}<0\). If \(\arg a_{1}\neq \pi \) or \(a_{1}<a_{0}\), then every meromorphic solution \(f\left( \not\equiv 0\right) \) whose poles are of uniformly bounded multiplicities of the equation \(\left( 1\right) \) has infinite order and \(\rho _{2}\left( f\right) =1\). {Theorem 2}. Let \(A_{j}\left( z\right) \), \(a_{j}\) satisfy the additional hypotheses of Theorem 1. If \( \varphi \left( \not\equiv 0\right) \) is a meromorphic function whose order is less than \(1\), then every meromorphic solution \( f\left( \not\equiv 0\right) \) whose poles are of uniformly bounded multiplicities of the equation \(\left( 1\right) \) satisfies \[ \overline{\lambda }\left( f-\varphi \right) =\overline{\lambda }\left( f^{\prime }-\varphi \right) =\overline{\lambda }\left( f^{\prime \prime }-\varphi \right) =\infty . \] The results obtained in Theorem 1 are an extension from entire solutions to meromorphic solutions of previous results obtained by \textit{F. Peng} and \textit{Z.-X. Chen} [J. Inequal. Appl. 2011, Article ID 635604, 9 p. (2011; Zbl 1233.34037)].
