Let \(\mathbb C\) be the complex plane and let \(D^2=\{(z_1,z_2): z_1\in \mathbb C,\, |z_i|<1, i=1,2\}\) denote the bidisk. For \(\alpha>1\), set \(d\upsilon_\alpha=(1-|z_1|^2)^\alpha(1-|z_2|^2)^\alpha d\upsilon\), where \(d\upsilon\) is the normalized Lebesgue measure on \(D^2\). The weighted Bergman space \(L^1_a(d\upsilon_\alpha)\) on \(D^2\) is the space of all holomorphic functions from the space \(L^1(d\upsilon_\alpha)\) on \(D^2\). The authors show that the space dual to \(L^1_a(d\upsilon_\alpha)\) is linearly homeomorphic to the Bloch space on \(D^2\). For a given complex Borel measure \(\mu\), the authors consider the Toeplitz operator \(T_\mu^\alpha\) defined densely on \(L^1_a(d\upsilon_\alpha)\) by the formula \[ (T_\mu^\alpha f)(w)=(\alpha+1)^2\int_{D^2}f(z)\frac{(1-|z_1|^2)^\alpha(1-|z_2|^2)^\alpha} {(1-w_1\overline{z}_1)^{\alpha+2}(1-w_2\overline{z}_2)^{\alpha+2}}d\mu(z), \] where \(f\) is a bounded function on \(D^2\). Under some assumptions on the measure \(\mu\), the authors give a necessary and sufficient condition for \(T^\alpha_{\overline{\mu}}\) to be bounded on \(L^1_a(d\upsilon_\alpha)\) and a necessary and sufficient condition for \(T^\alpha_{\overline{\mu}}\) to be compact on \(L^1_a(d\upsilon_\alpha)\).
