    Given a sequence of rectangles \(Q = \{ Q_1, Q_2, \ldots \}\) in the plane whose lower left corner is the origin, \textit{A. M. Stokolos} [Stud. Math. 88, No. 2, 103--120 (1988; Zbl 0706.28005)] introduced the maximal operator \[ M_{Q}f(x) = \sup_{i} \frac{1}{| Q_i |} \chi_{Q_i}* | f | (x). \] The authors consider some conditions for \(Q\) such that \(M_Q f(x) < \infty\) almost everywhere on \({\mathbb R}^2\), where \(f \in L^1({\mathbb R}^2)\). They also consider moving averages in the ergodic context introduced by \textit{A. Bellow} et al. [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 10, No. 1, 43--62 (1990; Zbl 0674.60035)].
