Let \(\alpha\in (0,1)\) be irrational and \([0;a_1, a_2, \dots]\) be its continued fraction expansion. The Sturm Hamiltonian is a discrete Schrödinger operator \((H\psi)_n :=\psi_{n-1} +\psi_{n+1} +v_{n}\psi_{n}\) on \(l^{2}({\mathbb Z})\), \(v_{n}=V\chi_{[1-\alpha, 1]}(n\alpha)\), where the coupling \(V\) is a fixed positive value. The authors investigate the spectrum \(\Sigma_{\alpha, V}\) of this operator for the most difficult case, where the sequence \(a_1, a_2, \dots\) is unbounded. They prove explicit formulas for fractal dimensions of \(\Sigma_{\alpha, V}\) and obtain certain other results on the spectrum.
