The authors consider a polarized toric Kähler manifold \((L,h)\to (X,\omega)\), a toric submanifold~\(Y\), and the partial Bergman kernel that corresponds to projecting smooth sections of~\(L^{k}\) onto holomorphic sections that vanish along~\(Y\) to order at least \(tk\) (where \(t\) is fixed and \(k\) is a natural number). For the kernel on the diagonal (the partial density function), they prove the existence of a distributional asymptotic expansion when \(k\to\infty\) and identify the coefficient of \(k^{n-1}\). The results are related to some work of \textit{B. Shiffman} and \textit{S. Zelditch} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 17, No. 1, 49--108 (2004; Zbl 1119.60007)], although the methods are different. The motivating application is to give a formula for the slope of the submanifold~\(Y\) in the sense of \textit{J. Ross} and \textit{R. Thomas} [J. Differ. Geom. 72, No. 3, 429--466 (2006; Zbl 1125.53057)]. A direct consequence is that if \(\omega\)~has constant scalar curvature, then \(X\)~is slope semistable with respect to~\(Y\). ``Similar results are also obtained for more general partial density functions. These results have analogous applications to the study of toric K-stability of toric varieties.'' The article is an outgrowth of the first author's 2011 doctoral dissertation written under the direction of the second author.
