The paper under review deals with Brauer-Manin obstructions for products \(X\times Y\) of smooth projective varieties (say) over a number field (the most interesting case). The main result states that Brauer-Manin obstructions for the product reduce to the factors. In addition there are results about the Brauer group of \(X\times Y\), essentially of the nature that up to finite groups it is the product of the Brauer groups of the factors. The proof uses the Künneth-formula for étale cohomology and reduces the assertion to the Tate conjecture for the Albanese varieties of \(X\) and \(Y\). Also essential is the existence of universal torsors (Colliot-Thélène and Sansuc). A curiosity: I could not understand the proof of Prop. 2.2 which, however, is not used in the sequel.
