In this interesting article, among many other results, the authors obtain a decomposition theorem (to be referred to as a hyper-reducing decomposition) of a single isometry. To see the statement, recall that a vector \(x\) in \(H\) is a \textit{wandering vector} for an isometry \(V\) if \(V^nx \perp x\) for every positive integer \(n.\) Let \(H_w\) denote the subspace generated by all wandering vectors of \(V.\) Then we have: {\parindent=0,5 cm \begin{itemize}\item[1.] \(H_0:=H^{\perp}_w \subseteq \cap_{n=0}^{\infty}V^nH\). \item [2.] \(H_0\) and \(H_w\) are hyper-reducing for \(V\). \item [3.] Every \(V\)-invariant subspace of \(H_0\) is \(V\)-reducing. \item [4.] If \(H_w=\{0\}\), then \(H_0=H_{ac} \oplus H_{sing}\), where \(V|_{H_{ac}}\) is unitary absolutely continuous (with spectral measure absolutely continuous w.r.t. to the Lebesgue measure on the unit circle) and with \(V|_{H_{sing}}\) is unitary singular (with spectral measure singular w.r.t. to the Lebesgue measure on the unit circle). \item[5.] If \(H_w \neq \{0\}\), then \(H_0=H_{sing}\) and \(H_w=H_{ac} \oplus H_{s}\), where \(V|_{H_{s}}\) is a unilateral shift. \end{itemize}} The above result is used to construct a decomposition for a commuting pair of isometries.
