Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(H\) be a subgroup of \(G\). Then \(H\) is called \(S\)-quasinormal if \(HP=PH\) for every Sylow subgroup \(P\) of \(G\). This concept has been generalized in the following two ways by \textit{A. Ballester-Bolinches} and \textit{M. C. Pedraza-Aquilera} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 127, No. 2, 113-118 (1998; Zbl 0928.20020)] and by \textit{S. Li, Z. Shen, J. Liu} and \textit{X. Liu} [J. Algebra 319, No. 10, 4275-4287 (2008; Zbl 1152.20019)], respectively: \(\bullet\) \(H\) is called \(S\)-quasinormally embedded in \(G\) if, for each prime divisor \(p\) of \(|H|\), a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of \(H\) is also a Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of an \(S\)-quasinormal subgroup of \(G\). \(\bullet\) \(H\) is called \(SS\)-quasinormal if there is a subgroup \(B\) of \(G\) such that \(G=HB\) and \(HP=PH\) for every Sylow subgroup \(P\) of \(B\). In the past, several results have been obtained by various authors proving that if some subset of subgroups of a group contains either only \(S\)-quasinormally embedded or only \(SS\)-quasinormal subgroups then the group is supersolvable, or \(p\)-supersolvable for some prime \(p\). In particular, similar conditions have been given by \textit{A. Ballester-Bolinches} and \textit{Y. Li} [Monatsh. Math. 172, No. 3-4, 247-257 (2013; Zbl 1294.20024)] (for \(S\)-quasinormally embedded subgroups) and by \textit{X. Wei} and \textit{X. Guo} [Sci. China Math. 54, No. 3, 449-456 (2011; Zbl 1219.20022)] (for \(SS\)-quasinormal subgroups). The paper under review provides common generalizations of these recent results. At the end of the article, the authors list a number of (previously known) corollaries of their main theorems.
