\textit{M. D. Acosta} et al. [J. Funct. Anal. 254, No. 11, 2780--2799 (2008; Zbl 1152.46006)] defined the so-called Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property as a quantitative way in which the set of norm attaining operators can be dense in the space of all operators between two Banach spaces. There are some extensions of this concept to multilinear forms [\textit{Y. S. Choi} and \textit{H. G. Song}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 360, No. 2, 752--753 (2009; Zbl 1190.46012)] or to the case of numerical radius attaining operators [\textit{A. J. Guirao} and \textit{O. Kozhushkina}, Stud. Math. 218, No. 1, 41--54 (2013; Zbl 1285.47008)]. The paper under review deals with the second extension. Given a Banach space \(X\), \(X^*\) is the topological dual space of \(X\) and \(L(X)\) is the space of all bounded linear operators on \(X\). For \(T\in L(X)\), its numerical radius is the quantity \[ v(T)=\bigl\{|x^*(Tx)|\,:\,x\in X,\,x^*\in X^*,\, x^*(x)=\|x\|=\|x^*\|=1 \bigr\}. \] A Banach space \(X\) has the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property for numerical radius (BPBp-\(\nu\) in short) if for every \(\varepsilon\in (0,1)\) there exists \(\eta>0\) such that whenever \(T_0\in L(X)\) with \(v(T_0)=1\), \(x_0\in X\) and \(x_0^*\in X^*\) with \(\|x_0\|=\|x_0^*\|=x^*_0(x_0)=1\) satisfy \(\|x_0^*(Tx_0)\|> 1 - \eta\), there exist \(x\in X\), \(x^*\in X^*\) with \(\|x\|=\|x^*\|=x^*(x)=1\), and \(T\in L(X)\) with \(v(T)=1\) such that \[ |x^*(Tx)|=1,\quad \|x_0-x\|<\varepsilon,\quad \|x_0^*-x^*\|<\varepsilon,\quad \|T_0-T\|<\varepsilon. \] It was shown in [Guirao and Kozhushkina, loc. cit.] that \(c_0\) and \(\ell_1\) have this property. The second example has been extended to \(L_1(\mathbb{R})\) in [\textit{J. Falcó}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 414, No. 1, 125--133 (2014; Zbl 1332.46012)] and to general \(L_1(\mu)\) spaces in [\textit{S. K. Kim, H. J. Lee} and \textit{M. Martín}, ``On the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property for numerical radius'', \url{arXiv:1312.7698}]. In this latter paper, it is also shown that every infinite-dimensional separable Banach space can be renormed to fail the Bishop-Phelps-Bollobás property (while for reflexive spaces, or even for Radon-Nikodým spaces, the set of numerical find sufficient conditions on a compact Hausdorff topological space \(K\) for \(C(K)\) to have the BPBp-\(\nu\). In particular, the metrizability of \(K\) is one of such sufficient conditions. Some results for some nonmetrizable compact spaces are also given.
